Practice Policy

Successful orthodontic treatment depends on cooperation and teamwork between patient and orthodontist, especially as treatment will usually involve wearing braces for 12 to 24 months with visits every 6 to 10 weeks for adjustments. We brief every patient thoroughly and aim to support you through the journey but unfortunately, our team will be unable to continue NHS treatment if the following occur:

  • 2 consecutive appointments are missed.
  • The patient does not attend their appointments over a 4 month period.
  • Oral hygiene is poor and does not improve after 2 warnings. This is because braces, if not cared for effectively, can collect plaque and food, increasing the chance of long term damage to teeth.
  • The brace is broken on more than 3 occasions.

We also ask that you make regular appointments once treatment starts, so that we are able to deliver the best possible end result. Although we aim to accommodate patients and will try to book appointments at a convenient time, we are unfortunately unable to offer appointments outside of school hours. As oral hygiene is so important whilst wearing braces, it is also important that you continue visiting your dentist throughout orthodontic treatment.
